Restored Inc. provides services, outreach, and education to young girls between the ages of 11-24 whom have been victimized by domestic sex trafficking and sexual exploitation. They work to raise awareness and provide education and advocacy in the hope of ending human sex trafficking throughout Indiana.
It’s a big calling! And we here at Uplift Intimate Apparel want to be part of the solution!
Back in February, we hosted an informational session at Uplift. Tracy McDaniel, Founder & CEO of Restored, spoke about the reality of domestic sex trafficking, online safety and what YOU can do about it! The key word here is YOU – that means ALL OF US! For this event, we asked for donations of Target and Walmart gift cards that could be given to the girls to shop for items that they need. These girls come from environments where there is no power to choose. They have been stripped of all dignity. These gift cards give them the ability to make selections, purchase items they pick. It’s part of the restoration process and so very important.
Earlier this week we got an email from Laura at Restored Inc. sharing one of the girl’s transition journey.
“Carla,
How amazing!! That’s the cool things about events like you did…their impact expands beyond the one evening. We can’t thank you enough for that! Your gift cards blessed one of the girls this past Wednesday. She is currently taking college classes and is ready to move into her first apartment, which meant it was time to take her to get the fun things like a vacuum, cleaning supplies, coffee maker, etc. She kept saying, “well this is a first for me”….”I’ve never had to look at vacuums before”. It was so special to see her choose what she wanted for her apartment. Thank you for making this possible!!”
WE all make a difference. People in the local community continue to see our posts about the event and are still bringing gift cards in. We are passing all of them on to Restored, Inc. and will continue to do so. We will continue to have educational sessions. We will continue to fight the good fight. We’re taking the stand “not on my watch!” Will you join us?
