There are songs written about this very topic. Here at Uplift, we believe we’ve got a really good answer that satisfies both the “want” and the “need.”
What many women want is to be comfortable, look and feel good in their clothes, and to not think about what they are wearing underneath. What many women need is a well-fitting bra. Everything comes together with the right bra. And let me be clear – wearing a bra that bothers you all day long – straps falling off your shoulders, tugging and twisting the band, etc. – is not part of that need.
We’ve been taught – incorrectly – there’s one bra that works for everyone. You may never have heard these exact words, but the meaning is “if this bra doesn’t work for you, tough, because this is the bra.”
The truth is, every-body is different. No one bra works for all of us.
However, THERE IS a perfect bra for you. Department stores and online sources have some options. Your most comprehensive options are found in Bra and Intimate Apparel specialty shops or boutiques. These places curate a wide range of styles and sizes and they are staffed with trained professional bra fitters. Their job is to make sure you find the right bra(s) for your body, your needs. A few must knows are:
The band of the bra is the workhorse. That band should feel like a good hug. Not too tight, not too loose. And it should fit around your body in the same position, not riding up in back.
The straps are only there to cuddle the cup up to the breast. Straps digging into or falling off your shoulders is not acceptable.
Your breasts should fit into the cups, no popping out on top or underneath the band.
Your bra should sit right against your chest between your breasts. You have two breasts, they should each be set independent of the other.
This is how your bra should fit. But what does that fit feel like? In a word, comfortable. You should be able to stand there (yes, in a dressing room, with a stranger) and feel more comfort than you’ve ever experienced before. You should stand a bit taller and feel a sense of confidence that maybe is a new feeling for you. And over time these feelings will become part of who you are – a beautiful, confident, valuable, and special woman. A woman who doesn’t think twice about what she’s wearing under her clothes except for the fact that she loves her intimates.
